Jessica Adams Lindstrom Legacy in Healthcare Award

It was the fall of 2006 and Cactus High School Lady Cobras were playing Scottsdale Saguaro for the Class 4A Division I state volleyball championship.  Jessica had made the team as a senior but hadn’t played much that season.  She wasn’t the best one on the team when it came to pure skills, but there wasn’t a single girl on the squad that had more team spirit than she did.  She practiced just as hard as they did and put it just as much time.  But, while she loved volleyball, it wasn’t something that came naturally to her, like some of the other girls.  But that didn’t stop her from cheering on her teammates, that day, or any other.  She contributed in significant ways to her team, but not always on the court during games.  And in fact, on that day, in the championship, she didn’t play at all.  But that didn’t make her contributions any less valuable.  She encouraged and supported her teammates, even if it was only going to be from the bench.  And when the final point was scored in the back-and-forth battle between two outstanding teams, it was this picture that was put in the newspaper the next day.  It epitomized her contributions, loud and clear.   She was “all in” for her team, because that was something that was her natural talent.  She pushed and encouraged and often brought out the best in others.  And that is a talent that she used for the rest of her life, and one for which she was loved by many, and not one you can take a picture of – though this photo comes pretty darn close.
